Said the Squid comics, by yours truly! :-)

Heres yet another adventure I am taking part in! A series of one panel comics written by funny man, and now co-worker Jeff Hollett from Yellowknife, NWT, and drawn by me! Been working on these for the past year now, and I have half the project yet to complete. (Having a baby kinda delayed things. lol) So Jeff, decides last week to show a few comics to potential Newspapers to see if there is any interest? Um... yeah, There was. After one week we currently are being published in 16+ (I say + cause I honestly lost count at 16) Newspapers hailing from coast to coast to coast and even abroad with 3 of the Newspapers in the UK as well! We are just floored! So here is our blog/site:  www.saidthesquid.com so please by all means follow and prepare to giggle at silly Northern humour. :-D

Enjoy!

First Comic published!

I have been working on a secret project of sorts with a fantastically funny dude, Jeff Hollett. Together we have started a collection of Newfoundland inspired one panel comics, similar to that of Gary Larson and his Farside Gallery. It's been published in Memorial Universities Newspaper, The Muse. We are SUPER excited! Here is the comic below.

Enjoy!

Little Gabby!

I did a little watercolour portrait for Miss Gabby. It was my first time meeting my friends baby girl, whom we also haven't seen in over a year. It was so nice spending a day with you guys! Isn't she the cutest? :-)

Enjoy!

A Slow Summer

Oh boy. Since having my baby boy I find myself trying hard to find the time during the day to do the little things that need to be done. It seems creating is usually at the end of my list. Its always there, and I hope to eventually check everything off to reach it, but it never happens. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't give anything that I have experienced as a new mom up, but when you are an artist, and creating is in your genes, it makes it hard not to be able to express what you need to express, and that includes being a new mom of course. :-)

Being summer there are so many beautiful things in nature that inspires me. A few weeks ago was strawberry season, and of course I used that opportunity to make strawberry cupcakes while my folks babysat. I had bought new piping bags and tips to make the buttercream pretty! It was something new, and fun, and I loved how they turned out. Pastry arts have always been a love of mine. Cakes, cookies, you name it, I love to bake sweet things.

So I managed to squeeze this lil' watercolor out a few days ago which was inspired by those cupcakes. This painting, which should have taken me 30 minutes to do, instead took me an entire day to complete. Ahhh, the joys of being a mother/artist!

Sorry its been so little here on my lonely blog lately, but I'm trying my best! Hopefully this fall when my hubby is finished with work I will get the opportunity to create more, and show you all more as well. :-)

Enjoy!

Sea Pottery Painted Brooches

Here is a new item to be sold on my hubby and I's craft site soon! These are hand painted brooches made from shore washed pottery, a lot like seaglass but pottery! We get a lot of smooth pottery shards with beautiful designs on them already; those I don't paint. These (and we have a LOT of them) are plain pottery pieces. I was wondering what to do with them, so last fall we came up with pendants and earrings which I have previously posted about here, but this spring I tried my hand at making brooches with them, since they are coming back into style. Here are a few I did this past week (During baby's naps of course, hehe!) Tell me what you think? Always love to know. :-)

Enjoy!

Birchwood Elementary Art Class!

I was honoured earlier this year by the students of Birchwood Elementary, who chose me as their artist of the month, and decided to do some paper collage "fattie" owls of their own! Thank you, guys! This is just the neatest thing ever, and you all did such a fantacular job! :-)

Flowers!

Summer is truly upon western Newfoundland. There is about 50 types of flowers and 5-10 different pansy flowers alone in my late father-in-law's garden, which has been kept up by my brother-in-law. They look so cheerful and bright! Makes me happy just looking at them. Of course I also found a local flower which I grew up picking as a little girl. Apparently they are a type of starflower. Very pretty, and very inspiring! Better crack out the watercolours while baby Clark is napping. Hehe!

Enjoy!

Imitation Is The Most Sincere Form Of Flattery.

So I have been checking out all these new Blogger tidbits about how to track your stats and all that jazz. When I notice that a TONNE of my blog hits come from Pinterest.com; a virtual bulletin board of crafty ideas. I click on the site, only to find my lil' owl rocks that I had painted last year, and which I have posted in a previous blog, has been plastered all over this site. How exciting! Its amazing what happens when you aren't paying attention! Hehe!

What I also noticed is that a few other images have been posted as well in the same category as mine, and I must admit, look very much like my little owl dudes. I am most flattered that they think my designs are worth trying for themselves, and I certainly encourage everyone to paint rocks. Its fun, its not expensive, and it gets you outdoors! What can be any better? Only yesterday I was beach-combing for some dandy rocks myself. I hope to be posting oodles of them up here soon, and have them up for sale on my craft site as well. Thanks to you folks who have painted these, you totally made my day! :-)

Enjoy!

Back on the Artists Band Wagon.

Well 3 months have passed since I became a new Mom. So much has happened, but now luckily for me, Sponge Bob Square Pants distracts my little guy JUST enough for me to doodle and such (and oh yeah, EAT. lol). So I have just started to get back into the swing of things.

You know what they say right? "Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach."? Well since my numb fingers and carpal tunnel didn't go away as quickly as I wanted them to, thats exactly what I did; I taught. I had a 6 course art workshop for the highschool in my hometown, which lasted 3 weeks. Basically covering the basics in drawing and painting. It was fun for sure, and I have been invited back again next year to do more! All I can say is kudos to you teachers out there! They forgot to mention that whose who can, do (With the exception of teaching cause it takes NERVES of steel!)

So the summer is upon us once again! I will be hopefully have book number 4 done soon, and will have some pictures up for a preview. I'm also in the process of painting more rocks for this busy summer's average tourist. My hubby and I have had more interest in our crafty items for sale in stores and such, and we have some new items which I will post here to show you. Along with seaglass, we have accumulated tonnes of plain ceramic and pottery pieces. So I have been painting one of a kind images on them to sell as jewellery! We've had great reviews on them, and sold out of the test batch back in November at the craft sale in Lourdes-de-Blanc-Sablon. Here is also some new painted rocks. A little minimalist in colours yes, but still just as dramatic and pretty. Who knew you could make such pretty designs using one shade. :-)

And just for funsies, my little Clark. Ain't he just the cutest? ;-)

Enjoy!

I know I said I'd post more often, but...

I kinda got...busy. :-)

Welcome the new member of our family, little Clark was born Feb 25th: 8 pounds 3 ounces, and 21.3 inches long. These past few months have been insane both renovation wise and prepping for the babies arrival. I guess they call it "nesting syndrome?" Either way... I drove my hubby nuts. HA!

Here is a short but sweet blog to show you our little adorable bundle of joy. Ohhhhhh boy I can see how he will constantly inspire my artwork from this day forward. So far these past few months I have been offered a bunch of art teaching projects and programs for the kids in my old highschool and for the Quebec/ Labrador Foundation. So I look forward to getting back into my art to finally update this thing! (Once the swelling and feeling in my drawing fingers come back... ahhh the joys of pregnancy. :-D)

Here is a sneak peek of my hubby and the nursery as of about a month ago. WAY better quality pics and artwork pics to come!

Enjoy!
